McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation advances healthcare throughout northern Michigan by connecting philanthropic generosity with the needs of patients, families, and communities. Supporting McLaren Northern Michigan, the regional hospital serving 22 counties across northern Lower Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula, the Foundation helps strengthen patient care, expand access, and invest in the future of healthcare across the region.
Philanthropy has been central to McLaren Northern Michigan’s growth, including the recent transformation of its Petoskey campus and expansion of its Cheboygan campus. The Foundation draws strength from a loyal, multigenerational community of year-round residents and seasonal families who share a deep investment in the health and well-being of northern Michigan.

The Opportunity
McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation seeks a dynamic, relationship-driven Chief Philanthropy Officer to lead the Foundation into its next chapter.
Reporting to recently appointed President and CEO Tonya Darner, the CPO will serve as the Foundation’s lead fundraiser and public face, overseeing annual, major, planned, and capital giving as well as the systems and operations that support a comprehensive philanthropic program. The CPO will build on a strong legacy of generosity while expanding the Foundation’s reach, keeping seasonal donors connected year-round and engaging a new generation of residents and supporters.
Working closely with hospital leadership, the CPO will help establish fundraising priorities and connect donors more deeply with McLaren Northern Michigan’s clinical mission. Near-term priorities include medical technology, physician recruitment and retention, and emerging projects such as an enhanced cancer center and housing for nursing staff. The CPO will also partner with the Foundation Board to strengthen engagement and cultivate the next generation of volunteer leaders while leading and mentoring a dedicated team of philanthropy professionals.
For a leader ready to invest deeply in northern Michigan, this is an opportunity to bring new energy and strategic leadership to a Foundation with an exceptional culture of generosity and a meaningful role in the future of regional healthcare.
