Fundraising Goes Mobile

Mobile and digital wallet payments, paired with a new generation of sustainable mobile fundraising applications, are expected to be big in 2016, and positively impact online fundraising in the nonprofit sector.

Programs with donor appeal will have features such as one-tap or biometric (fingerprints) scan enabled giving, or a portfolio for giving options. Apps from Amazon, Facebook, Google, PayPal, Twitter, and Apple are all vying for business in this up-and-coming field.

While Apple Pay may be one of the most well known mobile payments, services like Givelocity, which enables individuals to create groups where members donate $1 or more and vote on which nonprofit will receive the lump sum, or Omaze, which encourages donations to win once-in-a-lifetime experiences, are more engaging. And others make donation effortless: Give A Dime rounds up your purchases to the nearest dollar and donates the funds raised to your chosen charity.
