The Opportunity

The Director of Development, Gift Planning joins Rice at a time of institutional momentum and expanding philanthropic ambition.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Gift Planning, this role will play a central part in shaping the university’s long-term philanthropic future by securing planned and blended gifts from a portfolio of donors capable of contributing $100,000 or more.

This position offers the chance to engage donors in thoughtful, personalized philanthropic planning that aligns their legacy goals with Rice’s mission and strategic priorities. The Director will cultivate and steward relationships while also serving as a key partner to major and principal gift officers, providing expertise in complex giving strategies and charitable vehicles. Working collaboratively across campus, the role ensures that gifts are structured effectively and compliantly, maximizing impact for both donors and the institution.

In addition to managing a portfolio, the Director will contribute to the broader advancement strategy by supporting marketing and communications efforts, mentoring colleagues, and strengthening the pipeline of planned gifts. With the university preparing to launch a campaign, this role will be instrumental in securing commitments that sustain Rice’s mission for generations to come.

The salary range for this position is $110,000–$120,000 annually.
