For more than a century, Scouting America has helped young people develop character, leadership skills, and a commitment to service. Founded in 1910, Scouting America serves more than one million youth members ages 5 to 21 through programs that encourage personal growth, outdoor adventure, and community engagement. Supported by more than 350,000 volunteers, the organization prepares young people to navigate challenges, embrace opportunities, and lead with integrity.
Scouting America operates through a nationwide network of more than 200 independent local councils, supported by a national organization headquartered in Irving, Texas. With an annual national budget of approximately $325 million and a broader council network representing approximately $1 billion, Scouting America combines the reach of a national institution with the community connections of a volunteer-driven movement.
The Opportunity
Scouting America seeks an accomplished human resources executive to serve as its next Executive Vice President and Chief People and Culture Officer (CPCO).
This leader will shape an integrated people strategy that strengthens organizational culture, develops talent, and supports the employees and volunteers who make Scouting America’s mission possible. As the organization advances important initiatives in leadership development, performance management, succession planning, and HR technology, the CPCO will help build a contemporary People and Culture function equipped to serve a complex national enterprise.
Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer and serving on the Executive Management Team, the CPCO will oversee approximately 35–40 professionals with responsibility for Human Resources, Employee and Volunteer Training, Facilities, and Meetings Management.
The leader will guide the continued implementation of Workday, strengthen workforce analytics, and advance learning and development across an organization encompassing approximately 5,000 employees and 350,000 volunteers. Working across more than 200 independent local councils, the CPCO will build relationships, foster alignment, and influence people practices beyond the national organization.
This is an opportunity to strengthen the people and systems behind one of the nation’s most recognized youth-serving organizations and help position Scouting America for the future.
