For more than 50 years, the Center for Human Development (CHD) has provided community-based human services to individuals and families across Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. Founded in 1972 by three young activists who sought to bring care directly into homes, schools, workplaces, and community settings, CHD has grown into one of the largest human services agencies in Western Massachusetts, with an annual operating budget of approximately $180 million and more than 80 programs and services serving more than 27,000 people each year.
CHD seeks an exceptional President and Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization following the planned retirement of its long-serving President and CEO, Jim Goodwin. The next CEO will join CHD at a moment of strength and possibility, building upon decades of growth, innovation, and impact.
The Opportunity
Today, CHD is building upon this remarkable foundation and considering what is possible in its next chapter.
Its growing work at the intersection of behavioral health, primary care, and social services offers an important opportunity to advance a more integrated approach to care, one that draws upon the breadth of CHD’s expertise to meet the interconnected needs of the people and communities it serves.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President and CEO will provide strategic, organizational, and cultural leadership for CHD, partnering with a capable executive team that includes the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Program Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Vice Presidents of Human Resources and Community Engagement. The CEO will bring together the breadth of CHD’s programs, people, and expertise around shared priorities while preserving the responsiveness and program-centered orientation that have long distinguished its work.
The ideal candidate brings 15 or more years of progressively responsible executive leadership within a complex organization, ideally within behavioral health, human services, healthcare, or another highly regulated, service-intensive environment.
This is a rare opportunity for a strategic, entrepreneurial leader to honor and build upon CHD’s legacy, helping a strong and successful organization act with purpose, confidence, and ambition.
The salary range for this position is $325,000 – $425,000.
