Associate Consultant Job Description

The Lindauer Associate Consultant is responsible for providing search support by developing and assessing candidates for Client search openings. Associates also provide assistance in the areas of search marketing, preparation of candidate packages, and travel and meeting coordination.

Reporting to a Senior Search Leader in the firm, Associate Consultants typically work with two to three Search Leaders in order to develop and deliver consistent Client approaches. Within that working team, Associate Consultants are assigned to particular searches on the basis of content expertise, capacity to execute work with the highest quality, and geography.  They might also be asked to have Client interactions and must present with the utmost level of professionalism and sophistication to both Client and candidate contacts.

The Lindauer approach to building candidate pools is designed to create a highly collaborative team and company culture. Associate Consultants may over time be asked to work on assignments with other Search Consultants in the company.

Lindauer is dedicated to the successful onboarding of new hires and professional development for staff. Staff at all levels are given opportunities to learn new skills and techniques and to test themselves by accepting increasing responsibility in order to develop professionally. Three-month evaluations are held for new hires; six-month and year-end evaluations are conducted on an annual basis. All members of the Search Team are salaried; incentives may be awarded based on the company’s profitability and activities including achieving best practice metrics and attaining and/or exceeding goals.

Position Summary:

An Associate Consultant assists leaders of the firm in effectively managing the entire search process, which results in a candidate being offered a position by a Client and in a hire. This includes Client and Consultant meetings, weekly communication, research, candidate outreach, sourcing, vetting, referencing as needed, and written presentation of candidates to Client. At any one time, an Associate Consultant may be engaged in eight to 10 searches. Members of the Search Team attend regularly scheduled internal meetings and have the opportunity to contribute ideas by serving on company project teams.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • In concert with Search Consultant, gain a full understanding of the ideal placement profile, expectations and history of the position, and organizational culture, and ultimately derive a sense of “best fit” for the Client. May participate in some or all Client Intake meetings.
  • Attend internal search kick-off meeting with lead Consultant; assist in creating prospectus, a marketing document to attract candidates, and other marketing outreach in concert with Marketing colleagues.
  • Assist in developing a multi-pronged and strategic research strategy for each search.
  • Code potential candidates and resources to contact for the position using Lindauer’s state-of-the-art database, online directories, and social media.
  • Collaborate closely with Research colleagues to develop markets in which to seek candidates.
  • Make outreach calls and source individuals to build a pool of technically qualified candidates. Associate Consultant and Search Consultant are expected to use their networks to uncover prospects for other Lindauer searches, current and future, and also to generate leads for potential new clients.
  • Track search activity and progress in Lindauer database and create internal or Client progress reports as needed.
  • Schedule and phone interview individuals who appear to be strong matches for positions based on preliminary phone conversations and resume. Prepare and work with the Search Consultant to Zoom or in-person interview some or all candidates.
  • Prepare the Search Consultant to introduce and/or co-present those phone-screened and “best-matched” individuals to the Client at a resume review during weeks eight to 10 of the search process.
  • Work with the Search Consultant to support the Client in choosing six to nine people to interview in person.
  • Work with the Search Consultant to support the Client, after in-person interviews, to choose three to five finalists.
  • Conduct references and write candidate summary for Client’s review. Arrange for the on-site appointments and manage the logistics of the candidate-Client interviews; attend if requested.
  • Maintain communication with the Search Consultant in charge of the search Client.


  • Collaborate effectively with Business Development/Client Relations Administrator and other members of the Search Team.
  • Accompany members of the Business Development and Client Relations Team on sales presentations.
  • Attend company staff meetings and Search Team meetings.
  • Participate in at least one company project team.
  • Attend one or more professional conference/networking meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Travel required for intakes and some resume reviews or Client interviews.
