Williamstown, Massachusetts

Williams College is one of the oldest and most prestigious liberal arts colleges in the United States and stands out for both overall educational excellence and its distinctive capacity for sustaining excellence through generations.

Williams is renowned for its commitment to fostering a rich academic environment where talented students receive a deep and broad education, facilitated by a 6:1 student-faculty ratio and an enrollment of about 2,000 undergraduates. Renowned for its small class sizes, distinguished and caring faculty, skilled and loyal staff, the college encourages students to engage in original research and interdisciplinary studies, including the development of friendships, explorations of place and self, and simple reflection.

As a result of its student-focused commitment to excellence, Williams inspires one of the highest participation rates for alumni giving in the country. Each year, five in ten alumni make a gift to Williams.

The Opportunity

The Senior Development Officer (SDO) plays a critical role in advancing the institution’s ambitious fundraising goals, making the college’s highest aspirations possible.

Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the SDO will design and implement strategies to strategically engage and cultivate one of the strongest alumni communities in the country. In the process, the SDO will connect with philanthropists, lead special projects, collaborate with colleagues, and organize donor events both on and off campus.

The role calls for a mission-driven, relationship-oriented, intellectually curious, and experienced professional with a strong work ethic and a collaborative spirit who can effectively partner with various stakeholders within the Williams community.

Candidates for the SDO position should have a proven track record in soliciting and securing major gifts at the six-figure level and higher, as well as an understanding of current fundraising trends and best practices. Exceptional communication skills, the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, and strong organizational skills are essential.

The SDO will join a seasoned team during an exciting period of multi-year fundraising initiatives aligned with the college’s strategic vision.
