Executive Director, Office of Trusts, Estates, and Gift Planning

Cornell University , Ithaca, New York

Heralded as an “Ivy League university with a Big Ten heart,” Cornell University is a privately endowed research university and a partner of the State University of New York. As the federal land-grant institution in New York State, Cornell is moored by its responsibility — unique within the Ivy League — to make contributions in all fields of knowledge in a manner that prioritizes public engagement to help improve the quality of life in the state, the nation, and the world. Boasting an extraordinary alumni base, deep and broad volunteer involvement, and exceptionally committed Trustee leadership, Cornell is on track to achieve the best fundraising year in its history.

The University recently announced its five-year, $5 billion dollar campaign, To Do the Greatest Good, which will focus on three pillars: educating students, tackling the world’s most challenging problems, and connecting Cornell with the world through public engagement, international programs, and global reach.

The Opportunity

Cornell is seeking an Executive Director of the Office of Trusts, Estates, and Gift Planning to join a highly competent, collaborative, and well-respected team. Unique among its peers and home to one of the nation’s premiere Gift Planning programs, the Office also oversees the university’s interests in estates, life insurance policies, outside trusts, gifts of real estate, public and private securities, and the day-to-day administration of all planned gifts and the Cornell University Foundation – a donor-advised fund. This dynamic role will partner with and advise division colleagues working with the University’s most dedicated, engaged, and generous givers to structure complex and sophisticated gifts with care and creativity.

The ideal candidate will bring exceptional technical skill and fundraising experience with principal gift planning as well as compelling strength as a leader and manager. With an eye for detail and penchant for marketing, the Executive Director will drive innovation at a momentous time for Cornell. This individual will be a sought-after strategic leader within the division and will have the opportunity to partner with and steward some of the University’s highest-level donors.
