Director of Development, School of Data Science

University of Virginia , Charlottesville, Virginia

Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University of Virginia sustains the ideals of developing, through education, leaders who are well prepared to help shape the future of the nation and the world. Consistently ranked as one of the top public universities, UVA values the quality of research, scholarship, creative arts, and innovation because of the dual mission inherent in its identity as a collegiate research university. The University is large enough to support excellence in research and teaching, yet small enough to promote the collegiality and the interplay of ideas that are critical for academic leadership and innovation.

The Opportunity

UVA is seeking a strong fundraising leader in the newly created position of Director of Development, School of Data Science. An entrepreneurial visionary undaunted by the culture of a startup, the Director will build and execute the fundraising strategy for the School of Data Science. This role is a remarkable opportunity for a seasoned professional with experience working with the corporate, foundation, and individual donors to make a difference for vital societal needs.

The ideal candidate will be resourceful, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and unafraid to lead the school into a new frontier of fundraising, implementing infrastructure, and adding finesse as they scale their operations and reach. They will be self-starter, proactive, highly collaborative, and have prior experience in major gifts and corporate philanthropy either in a university or nonprofit setting. The ability to collaborate across the University to successfully build and grow the School of Data Science’s fundraising program to its greatest potential is a fundamental expectation.
