Director of Museum Development

Colby College Museum of Art , Waterville, Maine

Founded in 1813, Colby is the 12th-oldest private liberal arts
college in the country. Located in central Maine, Colby overlooks downtown
Waterville and the Kennebec River Valley. Colby’s
1,850 students come from nearly every state and more than 70 countries to take
advantage of its renowned academic programs, a curriculum that encourages
educational exploration, and collaborative learning experiences led by
world-class professors. The Colby College Museum of Art is a collecting and
teaching museum dedicated to the preservation, display, and interpretation of
the visual arts. It
embraces works of art from diverse cultures and historical periods, with
a focus on American art, and commitment to collecting and exhibiting
contemporary art. The Museum serves as a central site for intellectual
engagement, artistic contemplation, and social activity. As a primary teaching
resource for the College and the greater community, the Museum sits at the
crossroads of interdisciplinary thinking and facilitates stimulating encounters
between students, faculty, and community members who share the
liberal arts experience. The Museum is in the midst of a multi-year strategic
plan that will culminate in 2017.

The Opportunity

as one of the nation’s leading liberal arts museums. The Director will be
charged to build a comprehensive development program that includes diversified

crucial. This highly articulate individual will build a strong understanding of
the Museum’s priorities,
exhibitions and collection and will be expected to communicate its vision using
dynamic oral and written communication skills.
