Chief Executive Officer

The Schwartz Center , Remote or Boston, Massachusetts

The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare is a global nonprofit leading the movement to put compassion at the heart of healthcare through programs, education, and advocacy. The Center was founded by Ken Schwartz in 1995 a few days before his untimely death of lung cancer at age 40 to ensure that all patients would receive compassionate care. His message and mantra were to encourage meaningful caregiver-patient relationships and help make the “unbearable bearable.”

The Opportunity

The past few years have highlighted the importance of supporting the well-being of the healthcare workforce so its members are able to provide compassionate care to patients and families. As such, this is a pivotal moment in the history of the Center.

Nearing its 30th year, the Center is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to increase its visibility, influence, and impact. With an operating budget of more than $5 million, a seasoned leadership team and staff (remote), and an engaged and supportive Board, the Center will present the CEO with a range of opportunities to shape the vision and impact of compassionate care on a global scale.

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of executive mission-driven experience at the regional and/or national level, a track record of fundraising and business development success, and the skills and gravitas to engage a wide array of stakeholders within and across the healthcare sector. A passion for advancing compassionate healthcare, an understanding of emerging trends in healthcare, and a commitment to the Center’s principles and practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential.
