The Australian National University (ANU) is one of the world’s foremost research universities. Distinguished by a relentless pursuit of excellence, it attracts leading academics and outstanding students from Australia and around the world. Ranked among the top universities globally, ANU is charting a new strategic course to redefine the role of a contemporary national university. Located in the nation’s capital, ANU is renowned for the quality of its research, the excellence of its teaching, and its ongoing contribution to public life.
The recent development of ANU’s case for support and focus on thematic giving has created momentum and energy across the University community for philanthropy, alumni engagement and advancement. Complemented by the development of an educational advancement program for the University, ANU has created a philanthropic culture that is embedded into the University as it seeks to build in this space. Given its unique nature as the National University, ANU is able to connect with alumni, donors, friends and those previously unaffiliated with the University, but excited by its vision, energy and commitment to improving the world through education, research and innovation.
Significant internal cultural change is required for the University to achieve its targets in significant diversification and growth of research funding. ANU Innovation Institutes provide a structure that allows ANU to utilize new forms of financing and partnerships. Through enhanced partnering with industry, government, non-profits, professions and communities using innovative business models, the Institutes enable the creation of new pathways towards commercial and social applications for ANU research. By implementing a structure adjacent to established research and teaching programs, the Institute model will provide the space and the impetus to explore new interdisciplinary research and education programs with a renewed culture of managed risk taking and innovation.
In anticipation of the University’s first comprehensive, significant fundraising campaign, the Head of Advancement, Innovation Institutes will be responsible for building, coordinating and executing strong donor engagement plans to support University priorities, primarily through major gifts fundraising. S/He will be a seasoned development leader who can substantially contribute to the strategic growth, management and culture of the Advancement team and the University.
