Founded in 1831, New York University is the largest private university in the United States and an internationally distinguished research university, with a global alumni base of more than 600,000. NYU has built strength in every dimension of the University: program reputation, faculty eminence, research portfolio, arts and science, medical enterprise, and engineering and applied sciences.
NYU embodies vision in action. It rewards entrepreneurship, inspires philanthropy, and invests in the most productive and path-breaking ideas available in the academy. New York University’s Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) office is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. UDAR’s endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and for the University’s endowment. UDAR has developed a highly donor-centric structure that encourages collaboration across schools and units and yields bold visions for cross- and multi-disciplinary projects supported by principal and transformational gifts.
The Opportunity
The New York University seeks an Assistant Vice President, Advancement Communications and Marketing (AVP). There has never been a more exciting time to join NYU’s Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) team, as the new AVP will build upon current successes and lead the team in implementing creative and innovative methods to engage and inspire its diverse constituent base. With a current model largely focused on alumni communications, the AVP will be tasked with further building out the department to complement and support the full spectrum of development work at NYU, from broad-based digital marketing to discrete principal and major gift proposals.
The AVP will develop a comprehensive communications and direct marketing strategic plan to guide the work of the team, with a particular focus on the constituent user experience. The AVP will partner with UDAR leadership and key campus partners to ensure consistency and clarity of all branding and communications materials aligned with University initiatives and priorities.
The AVP will manage a current team of four and will make strategic hiring decisions to bring other sets of diverse skills and experiences to the department. The successful candidate will thrive in work environments requiring an entrepreneurial and flexible style and will bring a collaborative, team-oriented spirit along with exemplary leadership qualifications.
