American University creates meaningful change in the world by combining a tradition of strong undergraduate and graduate education with a focus on experiential learning, global leadership, and public service. American University is home to eight prestigious schools and colleges and provides the intellectual and ethical leadership to prepare the next generation of global leaders.
Kogod School of Business (KSB) is the oldest accredited business school in Washington, DC, and is nationally recognized for its world-class programs, exemplary faculty, and successful graduates. The School provides experiential learning — learning by doing — at the center of its business education philosophy. The School offers the best of both worlds — the spectacular beauty of an 84-acre award-winning campus arboretum and an unrivaled location in the heart of the international business capital.
The School seeks an Assistant Dean of Development to partner with a new incoming Dean to capitalize on the School’s philanthropic potential and help it achieve new levels of success. The Assistant Dean will manage and partner with the School’s Director of Development, as well as leverage other team members and resources in the central Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) office, to structure and build a comprehensive fundraising program for the School-aligned with institutional priorities, DAR goals and metrics, and industry best practices. Serving on the Dean’s management team and staffing the Dean’s Advisory Council, the Assistant Dean will help shape gift opportunities and develop major gift and engagement strategies to excite and inspire KSB’s stakeholder community. The Assistant Dean will serve as the School’s chief fundraiser during the final years of the University’s $500 million Change Can’t Wait campaign.
The successful candidate will exhibit an entrepreneurial, yet disciplined, approach to their work, and will foster an innovative, strategic, and collaborative team environment.
