The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) is both a learned society and a major independent research library. It is the oldest historical society in the United States with a national focus. AAS offers programs for professional scholars, pre-collegiate, undergraduate and graduate students, educators, professional artists, writers, genealogists and the general public.
To strengthen its ability to be the premiere library of record of pre-20th-century American imprints, AAS is embarking on a building expansion project, a new three-story, 7,000-square-foot addition to Antiquarian Hall. This will dramatically increase AAS’s capacity to preserve and to share the multitude of American stories documented in the printed record of our nation’s past.
The Vice President for Advancement (VPA) oversees all advancement programs, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, capital funding, advancement operations and government and foundation support. Reporting to the President, and as part of the organization’s senior management team, s/he will actively develop and execute philanthropic strategies for the current expansion campaign. S/He will develop major philanthropic opportunities, maintain a portfolio of major donors as a relationship manager and work closely with the organization’s donors, Council, staff, membership and volunteers. The VPA will have broad responsibilities in overall management, governance, strategic planning and prosperity of the organization.
