The Opportunity

As Duke University expands its international reach and launches a bold new global strategy, it seeks an experienced, dynamic, and globally minded leader to serve as the next Managing Director and Assistant Vice President for International Development and Engagement.

This role offers an opportunity to shape the future of global advancement at a top-tier institution. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Individual Giving, the Managing Director will serve as Duke’s primary architect of an international fundraising strategy, aligning global philanthropic engagement with institutional priorities.

This leader will drive all aspects of international development and engagement, including major gift cultivation and volunteer management. They will also partner with University leadership, deans, and faculty across schools and units to deepen Duke’s connections with alumni, parents, and friends worldwide.

As Duke looks to strengthen its presence in global markets, the Managing Director will serve as a key ambassador, advancing high-level relationships and philanthropic partnerships.

This position offers the opportunity to manage a staff of fundraising professionals and build a high-performing unit. The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated success securing seven- and eight-figure gifts internationally as well as strategic acumen, cultural fluency, and an inspiring leadership style. Duke seeks someone who sees global advancement as essential to the University’s mission and who is excited to help shape its international trajectory in this moment of historic transformation.
