For more than 125 years, the University of Chicago has been a global leader in research and education, driving innovation across disciplines and building a legacy of bold thinking and transformative impact. At the heart of its academic health enterprise is the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM), which integrates the University of Chicago Health System, the Biological Sciences Division (BSD), and the Pritzker School of Medicine. UCM is a top destination for the treatment of complex conditions, and a nationally recognized hub for groundbreaking research and education in the life sciences.
Medicine and Biological Sciences Development (MBSD) supports the bold mission of UChicago Medicine by securing philanthropic support that powers scientific breakthroughs, advances patient care, and trains the next generation of medical leaders. A team of over 90 professionals, MBSD is entering a period of strategic expansion, charged with raising $1.9 billion as part of the University’s next capital campaign and increasing annual philanthropic revenue to $220 million by 2035.
The Opportunity
To meet this ambitious target, MBSD is making strategic investments in fundraising capacity, including hiring three Directors of Individual Giving to lead efforts for key clinical service lines: neurology, cancer, and orthopaedics.
These roles offer the chance to join a high-performing advancement team at one of the nation’s top academic medical institutions and to partner directly with visionary clinicians, scientists, and grateful patients.
Each Director will be responsible for managing a robust portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospective donors, with a focus on securing major and principal gifts. They will develop and execute thoughtful fundraising strategies in close collaboration with clinical and academic leadership, while also serving as mentors to junior team members.
The opportunity combines strategic leadership, frontline fundraising, and mission-driven impact and is ideal for professionals who are passionate about elevating healthcare, advancing medical discovery, and building strong relationships that result in transformational support. With the infrastructure, institutional commitment, and community reach of UChicago Medicine behind them, these Directors will transform the future of healthcare philanthropy.
The salary range for this role is $150,000 – $160,000.
