Founded in 1985, the Omaha Public Library Foundation (OPLF) is a cornerstone of philanthropic and civic engagement in Omaha. Dedicated solely to enhancing the Omaha Public Library system, OPLF has raised nearly $20 million to support vital programs and services beyond the scope of public funding. The Foundation’s historic achievements include the computerization of the library system, expanded children’s and teen resources, and support for staff training and development.
OPLF played a key role in the most transformative project to date which is the $158 million campaign for a new Central Library—set to open in 2026. This effort, a testament to robust public-private partnerships, demonstrates OPLF’s strategic agility and impact. With a service area of over 600,000 people, the Omaha Public Library is the only public library system serving all of Douglas County, and OPLF is its dedicated fundraising and engagement partner.
