Vice President for Development

Hartford Foundation for Public Giving
Hartford, Connecticut

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, nearing its centennial celebration in 2025, is one of the earliest pioneers in community-based philanthropy and stands at the cusp of a transformative moment. Driven by the belief that community, knowledge, and passion can drive significant social change, The Foundation is committed to enhancing the Hartford region’s well-being through strategic philanthropic investments.

With a bold vision for the future, the Foundation aims to inspire a new era of community-centric fundraising that emphasizes collaboration and collective action to address systemic issues and promote equity.

The Opportunity

As a member of the executive leadership team, the Vice President for Development will connect the dots between the Foundation’s fundraising infrastructure and its vision for a more equitable, more inclusive Hartford.

A strategic thinker, tactical fundraiser, and dynamic relationship-builder, the VP will develop a strategy aligned model of giving, working with donors, corporations, and public sector partners to ensure sustainable growth. The VP will expand and galvanize the donor pipeline at all levels to implement the Foundation’s priorities, from increasing opportunity for Hartford’s historically marginalized residents to promoting civic engagement, participation, and awareness.

The successful candidate will possess a community-centered understanding of development strategies and activities, along with a proven background of exceptional management of development teams, major gift programs, and complex assets. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will excel in educating, engaging, and unifying donors around a broader vision for Hartford’s future, aligning donor giving with the Foundation’s strategic commitments.

This role requires a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as exceptional communication, change management skills, and collaborative ability to effectively meet donor service and fundraising targets.
