Vice Chancellor and Chief Development Officer

Jewish Theological Seminary , New York City, New York

Founded in 1886, the Jewish Theological Seminary is a forward-thinking institution that “articulates a vision of Judaism that is learned and passionate, pluralist and authentic, traditional and egalitarian; one that is thoroughly grounded in Jewish texts, history, and practices, and fully engaged with the societies and cultures of the present.” By joining faith with inquiry, JTS is today the leading institution of Jewish learning and spiritual center of Conservative Judaism in the United States. To support its core educational goal, JTS has the largest collection of Judaica in the diaspora, allowing students to access thousands of years of artistry and information about Judaism and its history.

The Opportunity

JTS seeks a Vice Chancellor and Chief Development Officer to foster interdepartmental collaboration and synergy to advance JTS’s mission. JTS’s new future-minded Chancellor leads a preeminent institution of Jewish higher education during a phenomenal time for philanthropy. A successful and soon-to-close nine-figure capital campaign, The Crossroads Campaign, has financed a campus addition and enabled JTS’s state-of-the-art 21st-century campus.

The Vice Chancellor role is an exceptional opportunity for a relationship builder to create and drive fundraising strategies that generate significant results during an exciting time for the JTS. As the leading development professional, the Vice Chancellor will report to and partner with the Chancellor in expanding JTS’s reach. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, this individual will be self-motivated, tenacious, and inspirational in interacting with all levels of leadership, key stakeholders, institutional partners, and high-capacity donors.
