Society for Science & the Public (the Society) is dedicated to public engagement in scientific research and education. Its vision is to promote the understanding and appreciation of science and the vital role it plays in human advancement: to inform, educate, and inspire. Since 1921, the Society has conveyed the excitement of science and research directly to the public through its award-winning magazine, and its other media properties including . It is best known for its world-class science competitions including the iconic Intel Science Talent Search, Intel Science and Engineering Fair, and Broadcom MASTERS. The Society is supported annually by leading corporations and foundations, and received support in the last year from more than 90,000 subscribing members and more than 4,000 donors.

The Opportunity

The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) is responsible and accountable for the strategic direction, building, planning, implementation and oversight of all revenue activities for the Society. This includes revenue generated from institutions including corporations, foundations, and government agencies; individual annual giving including from alumni; subscribing members and from enterprise or sales efforts. With responsibility for scaling all revenue activities, the CAO will work with the CEO, the senior team, and Board members to develop strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit significant revenue. The selected candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of experience (5 years in a leadership role) with a track record of building teams and leading successful comprehensive revenue generating programs in a nonprofit organization. An advanced degree, capital campaign and corporate experience are desirable.
