The Opportunity

Colgate University, a top-ranked liberal arts college, is seeking to fill the position of Director of Major Gifts to lead a major gifts pipeline and program focused on raising impactful commitments from alumni, parents, and friends of the University. Colgate enjoys a strong tradition of philanthropy, having already raised nearly $450 million toward the $1 billion goal for the Campaign for the Third Century, which kicked off publicly in April 2022. This tradition of philanthropy, paired with strong levels of alumni affinity, positions Colgate well for even greater success, as Vice President Karl W. Clauss and Associate Vice President and Campaign Director Kim Harris and their team prepare to lead the community into a historic and comprehensive campaign.

At this pivotal moment in the University’s history, President Brian W. Casey, Vice President Clauss, Associate Vice President and Campaign Director Harris, and the Colgate community are seeking an expert fundraiser with a demonstrated passion for liberal arts education and the role philanthropy plays in supporting its mission. The best-matched candidate will be an ambitious, intellectually curious, and strategic individual with extensive experience building relationships with leading philanthropists, leading and managing a team of successful frontline fundraisers, and driving cross-campus initiatives forward.

The salary range for this position is $150k to $175k.
