The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is a renowned independent research center at the University of Washington. Led by Dr. Christopher J.L. Murray, IHME’s mission is to deliver to the world timely, relevant, and scientifically valid evidence to improve health policy and practice. IHME carries out this mission through a range of projects across different research areas, including the global burden of diseases, injuries, and risk factors; future health scenarios; costs and cost effectiveness; resource tracking; and impact evaluations. IHME’s vision is to provide policymakers, donors, and researchers with the highest-quality quantitative evidence base so that all people live long lives in full health.

The Opportunity

IHME has an outstanding opportunity for an experienced communications professional to serve as the Director of Communications. Reporting to the Institute Director, Dr. Christopher J.L. Murray, the DoC will lead a department of more than 25 creative and motivated staff to support existing and new innovative projects at IHME. As a member of IHME’s highly accomplished, dynamic, and fast-moving Senior Management Team, the DoC will be heavily invested in the success of the enterprise and will serve a critical role in helping the Institute achieve its strategic priorities and foster a culture of engagement and visibility.

The DoC will be instrumental in promoting the visibility and impact of IHME’s groundbreaking research and sharing this information nationally and internationally through key media and outreach channels. The focus of this position is formulating and spearheading delivery of IHME’s work into the hands of decision-makers around the world through a comprehensive communications strategy that includes communications, marketing, and public relations.
