The Opportunity

The Director of Advancement for the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine is a pivotal role in advancing the University’s mission. Tasked with driving the institution’s strategic objectives through the solicitation of private philanthropic support, this position holds significant responsibility in shaping the future trajectory of medical education, research, and patient care.

Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of Advancement, the Director of Advancement will use their expertise to cultivate and steward relationships with a portfolio of discerning donors, leveraging their capacity for major and principal gifts to advance the School of Medicine’s mission.

In alignment with the institution’s vision, the Director of Advancement will collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including physicians, faculty, and staff, to identify and prioritize funding opportunities that meet the School of Medicine’s strategic priorities. A seasoned fundraiser, the successful candidate will craft and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies, encompassing major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, and alumni engagement initiatives. Through meticulous planning and execution, they will articulate a compelling case for philanthropic investment, leveraging their communication skills to inspire support and engagement from prospective donors.

The Director of Advancement requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, along with at least six years of experience in institutional development or advancement, ideally within academic medicine. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a track record of successfully soliciting major gifts, possess excellent communication skills, and exhibit a collaborative and results-oriented approach.
